Q&A

If there was one piece of art you could feature in, which would it be and why?

When I was in my early twenties and working in a commercial gallery, Lucian Freud asked me to sit for him but through shyness I declined. I don’t really believe in having regrets, but if I did this would be high up on the list.

Who inspires you and why? An artist, a family member, someone current or historical?

I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by inspiring people every day, but if I had to pick one it would be my Mum, dancer and choreographer Diana Scrivener. From an early age she instilled in me the belief that it is possible to make a career out of being creative, and that the arts were worth believing in. Her life-long conviction, determination and dedicated are always an inspiration to me.

What are your cultural aspirations? What do you still want to see, do and achieve?

There is always more to see and do, especially in London, so to make the most of those possibilities and not to take them for granted is always at the forefront of my mind. On a more practical note, I am yet to produce a big project in America so that is definitely something I’m aiming for, as well as continuing to grow and learn as a business.

What are your favourite cultural cities in the world and why?

London for never being dull, and for affording me the opportunities and experiences I’ve been lucky enough to have thus far. New York for the 24-hour energy, and Hong Kong because there is so much growth and change going on in the arts there - I can’t wait to see what happens!

What are you up to at the moment and where can we find it?

At the moment I’m preparing to go on a sabbatical to India – when you work for yourself having time to step back and reflect is imperative, so I’m taking the chance while I can! India is a huge inspiration to me, and I love the innate entrepreneurial spirit there. I’m also busy lining up projects for 2015, including a number of exhibitions, a jewellery collaboration, plus a new art-led homewares brand that will be launching soon. October 2014.
