Kate Szymanik is a London-based sales and marketing manager at RISK made in Warsaw, a fashion brand which balance elegant cuts with the comfiest fabrics.
RISK partners with young artists and entrepreneurs to work on various creative projects, innovatively mixing technology with the arts. They take part in talks, events and curate exhibitions.
Art has always been close to Kate's heart. She is an enthusiastic traveller to fairs, biennales and any culturally rich destinations.
If there was one piece of art you could feature in, which would it be and why?
I guess no girl would ever say no to Botticelli but I wouldn’t mind hiding somewhere in the background of a painting by Toulouse-Lautrec - with a glass of absinthe, enjoying the bohemian lifestyle of Belle Époque Paris.
Who inspires you and why? An artist, a family member, someone current or historical?
I greatly admire Miroslaw Balka, with whom I had the chance to work. He taught me how to look at paintings, sculptures and permanently changed my approach to Modern Art. Witnessing performances by Marina Abramović and Yoko Ono were also life-changing experiences.
What are your cultural aspirations? What do you still want to see, do and achieve?
Travel! I want to continue learning about the world and discovering its secrets. I also aspire to have an art collection of my own at some point.
What are your favourite cultural cities in the world and why?
London. I have had the luck and the misfortune to live here for the past 5 years. Once you are here, you never want to move. It’s a neverending explosion of new ideas, attitudes and an unparalleled mix of cultures. You can never get bored of this city, and any trip out involves a little bit of FOMO. Some part of me is also deeply in love with Venice and its art scene - taking long walks during the Biennale and admiring artworks scattered around the town in different, sometimes surprising locations - like Ai Weiwei’s “S.A.C.R.E.D” displayed at Sant’Antonin church a couple of years ago.
What are you up to at the moment and where can we find it?
Have a look at our RISK website and visit our flagship store and coffee shop once you are in Warsaw. You could possibly meet me at fashion tradeshows in London, Berlin and Copenhagen this summer... Maybe even Tokyo!
