Kaneka Subberwal is the Founder and Managing Director of Art Select, an initiative that aims to encourage and advise individuals and companies on art as an investment.
She is also the Co-Founder of this year's inaugural ArtBahrain, with the aim of establishing a forward thinking platform to further promote the growth of art in the country.
If there was one piece of art you could feature in, which would it be and why?
I would love to just stand somewhere in one of Jamil Naqsh's paintings. His paintings featuring pigeons are just breathtaking.
Who inspires you and why? An artist, a family member, someone current or historical?
Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, for her dedication to promoting women's rights and welfare. She presides over the Supreme Council for Women, which is the official reference for women’s activities and actions in the Kingdom of Bahrain and is primarily concerned with formulating the national strategy and general policies related to enhancing the role of women in several areas. Her support of female Bahraini artists is especially commendable.
What are your cultural aspirations? What do you still want to see, do and achieve?
ArtBahrain has been my dream and vision ever since I arrived to the Island. Bahrain has so much to offer and I see it as the first step to bringing the works of Bahraini artists to the world.
What are your favourite cultural cities in the world and why?
St Petersburg - Discovering this city was a revelation for me, it just breathes culture.
Jaipur - I am originally from India, and have recently re-visited it with my daughter. I have travelled a lot, but India's rich culture never fails to enchant me.
London - I find myself constantly being surprised by amazing new galleries while in London.
