Jean-David initiated the opening of the London branch of Opera Gallery in 2005 where he is now the current director of one of eleven branches across the world. He is also well-known as an art dealer and personal advisor to an array of important individuals and families from all walks of life – ranging from fashion VIPs to politicians and members of the Royal family.
While working at Opera Gallery Jean-David has achieved a great deal, including redesigning and redeveloping the art-on-display of Paris’ Mogador theatre for it’s opening in 2007 and again for Madrid’s Teatro Lope de Vega in 2011. Jean-David also collaborated with The Heydar Aliyev Center and the Fonds de Dotation Bernard Buffet in presenting the first Bernard Buffet museum retrospective in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2014.
Keeping true to his love for contemporary art, he is always on the look-out for new talents across the world – be it painters, sculptors or photographers.
If there was one piece of art you could feature in, which would it be and why?
My favourite artist is Marc Chagall, to view his work is like to be inside a dream, full of life and colour. I would choose 'Mariés au Village' (1969).
Who inspires you and why? An artist, a family member, someone current or historical?
My young son Joshua is 5 years old. He is a real inspiration, so passionate about art, sculpture and drawing.
What are your cultural aspirations? What do you still want to see, do and achieve?
I have a very close relationship with my artists, I need to be around them meeting them often, going to their studios. I have a need to go to museum exhibitions, art fairs and to travel the world, I think that is true aspiration.
What are your favourite cultural cities in the world and why?
Where I came from, Paris! It is for me the top of the top in terms of culture, art, architecture etc..
What are you up to at the moment and where can we find it?
For now I am working on few projects. I just finished a great exhibition with hyper-realist artist Mike Dargas in London and working on my upcoming shows in London for 2017. I am also preparing a great exhibitions with up coming Korean artists.
