Professor Andrew Shoben is an English artist, academic and broadcaster. He founded greyworld, a world renowned artists' collective who create public art. Primarily, greyworld's work is about play, and allowing some form of creative expression in urban space. greyworld has created works in some hugely coveted locations across the world, and they now have permanent installations in fourteen countries.
If there was one piece of art you could feature in, which would it be and why?
Anything with food in. Dejeuner sur l’herbe maybe. Yum. Nice weather too.
Who inspires you and why? An artist, a family member, someone current or historical?
Maurice Sendak's Where the wild things are. It is a rare gift to write and create as an adult, but so naturally through the eyes of a child. Something to think about when making any work anywhere.
What are your cultural aspirations? What do you still want to see, do and achieve?
I am looking for technology to disappear, as it seems to be, and let the experience be totally foregrounded.
What are your favourite cultural cities in the world and why?
I have travelled all over, but nothing comes close to London. The ultra modern, the ancient, the loved and unloved. Best cultural city in the world.
